Rules & Regulations
 
01. Code of Conduct:
  For Students:
     
  1.1 We have strict disciplinary rules which we require our students to follow not only during School hours but also on the way to and from School even during games. They apply at any time to girls wearing the School uniform, or in any organized School group, or involved in any activity. We expect your full co-operation and support in this regard.
       
  1.2 Students must take pride in their uniform and wear the correct school uniform daily, (as defined in ‘Uniform and Dress Code’ below).
       
  1.3 Students are expected to remain courteous and congenial at all times. They must continuously demonstrate consideration for others.
       
  1.4 Pupils should take pride in all the work they do, and should always endeavour to meet their deadlines.
       
  1.5 Respect and regard for others is essential. Bullying (physical or verbal), and any other kind of intimidation tactics will be dealt with severely. Abusive and racist language will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
       
  1.6 Students must show respect for School property. Defacing School property is strictly forbidden. Any damage caused to School property will result in disciplinary action and heavy fines.
       
  1.7 Pupils must not climb out of the School windows, or climb onto roofs or fences otherwise they will be suspended.
       
  1.8 Students are provided with desks, in which they are expected to lock their books and belongings. In case a student loses her key, she must pay a fine to have her desk unlocked.
       
  1.9 Littering inside and outside the school premises is frowned upon and prohibited.
       
  1.10 It is important that any absence from School is supported by a note from home, so as not to be considered as truancy. A written application for leaves of absence for any reason must be submitted to the Principal.
       
  1.11 A written or verbal explanation from a parent or guardian must be submitted to the Principal in certain circumstances, such as:
    1.11.1 The student’s absence from School.
    1.11.2 A request for relief from homework.
    1.11.3 Failure to complete homework within the given deadline.
    1.11.4 Non-participation in academic or co-curricular activities.
    If no letter or communication is received, the School management will deem it as a lack of compliance with School Policy and will have to take measures, as described in the ‘Punishments’ of the School Rules and Regulations.
       
  1.12 Pupils suffering from any infectious diseases must not be sent to school.
       
  1.13 Should a student miss lessons, for any reason, it is her responsibility to catch up with the missed work.
       
  1.14 The School Management has the right to take any action and decision in the interest of the security and welfare of its students and the School.
       
  Expulsion:
       
  1.15 The name of a student will be struck off the roll if she is absent from school without notice for ten or more days.
       
  1.16 The School Management reserves the right to expel any student at any time for misconduct, indiscipline, low attendance or her involvement in such activities as defined under 'Long absence without Notice' and major 'Disciplinary Problems'.
       
  1.17 Students, who are expelled, for any reason, will not be eligible for refund of security deposit.
       
  Parental Conduct:
       
  1.18 Parents are requested to support their daughter/s in all their educational endeavours by giving praise and showing interest in their school activities. They must assist their daughters in their academic and co-curricular pursuits by ensuring that their children have all the materials (stationery, costumes, etc) that they need.
       
  1.19 Parents must demonstrate to the student that they and the teachers work together for the student’s benefit.
       
  1.20 Parents are strongly advised to interact with the staff and faculty members politely and courteously. They must try to be reasonable and logical in their demands. If there is a concern or issue which they feel strongly about, they should write a letter to the Principal, or seek an appointment with the faculty member via the telephone, email or post. Suggestion boxes have been placed at the gate and in all three buildings, should parents wish to drop letters personally or through their daughters.
       
  1.21 Parents must pledge to preserve the integrity and security of the School and the respect of its staff and must not commit or perform any acts that may jeopardise the safety of the students or reputation of the institution.
       
  1.22 The School reserves the right to evict from the School premises any parent found to be insulting, unruly, disrespectful and/or threatening and their progeny suspended or expelled and their security deposit withheld.
  1.23 Any parent found to be attempting to bribe, manipulate and use unfair or illegal means for any purpose with any personnel from the School will face serious repercussions, which could include expulsion of their offspring, institution of legal proceedings, or any such action that the School Management deems fit.
  1.24 The School reserves the right to carry out security checks on any person who comes into the school for safety reasons. Authorised members of the School may request proof of identity of any person who comes to pick up a child from the School. However, it is the responsibility and liability of the parents to ensure their child’s safety.
  1.25 It is absolutely forbidden for any person to park their cars in front of the gate or to obstruct the gate in any way. Visitors to the School must strive to be considerate and not in any way block the traffic outside the School. The space allotted for parents/visitors can be utilized for car parking. This could potentially effect on their daughter’s student record.
  1.26 Male relatives of students will not be allowed in the premises unless expressly invited.  They are requested to wait outside the gate or in a designated waiting area to pick up the students.
  1.27 For security reasons, parents are advised to enter the School buildings only for a valid reason.
  1.28 DPS welcomes parents who wish to volunteer in School activities. The School may ask those who wish to volunteer to assist the School in field trips, regulating School traffic, speak at Career Counselling day, fund raising or charity events and/or other miscellaneous events.
   
  School-Parent Communications:
     
  1.29 It is mandatory for parents to attend all three Parent-Teacher Meetings in which the progress of their daughter is discussed.
  1.30 It is incumbent on parents to ensure that they provide updated information about the student. This would consist of the current telephone number, home address, work telephone number and emergency contact number/s. Parents must immediately notify the school of any changes in their contact information.
  1.31 Parents must also inform the School Management of any important change/factor in the student’s life, for example, a recent medical condition which may affect their studies, separation or divorce of the parents, death of a family member, etc.
  1.32 Parents may be contacted by concerned members of the School regarding their daughter’s behaviour or performance as and when the need arises. This may be in the form of letters, telephonic conversations and meetings. Behavioural issues such as the following may be discussed:
    1.32.1 Irregular/ late attendance without genuine justification in documented form through a letter or medical certificate.
    1.32.2 Habitual idleness and slacking-off in spite of letters of warning to parents to help their child improve.
    1.32.3 Repeated objectionable behaviour such as aggression, non-cooperation, impoliteness and other forms of anti-social behaviour etc.
    132.4 The use of unfair means in tests and exams;
    1.32.5 Non-compliance of the school’s dress-code, or modification of the dress-code without permission from the school, over a period of time;
    1.32.6 Possession of banned items.
  1.33 The School will keep its parent and student body apprised of necessary information through the following channels:
    1.33.1 Circulars and/or diary notes.
    1.33.2 Through its website www.dps.edu.pk.
    1.33.3 Posting information on the notice board at the gate.
    1.33.4 In case of emergency or for unscheduled holidays; through the School sms service or by contacting key students from every class to disseminate information.
  1.34 Parents will be asked to fill out a ‘Parents Feedback Form’ so that the Management may be fully aware of their thoughts on the academics of their daughter, and on the administration of the School. The School Management appreciates constructive criticisms and words of encouragement by parents. The School Management will respond to certain feedback through letters, wherever required.
     
02. Admission:
  2.1 The admission results are final and based upon merit.
     
  2.2 All admissions will be processed according to the established procedure which includes submission of required documents, aptitude tests for certain subjects, if required, and parental interviews. The School maintains the right to accept or refuse a candidate after due consideration to all aspects of the admission rules.
     
03. School Terms and School Timings:
       
  3.1 The new academic session begins immediately after the Summer Vacations.
       
  3.2 O level timings are as follows:
Monday to Thursday: 7:40 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
Friday: 7:40 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
       
  3.3

A level timings are as follows:
Monday to Thursday: 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Friday: 7:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

       
  3.4

During Ramazan:
Monday to Thursday: 7:40 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Friday: 7:40 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

    Any change in these timings will be notified to the parents via circulars.
       
  3.5 The School gates will be closed at 7:50 a.m.
       
  3.6 Punctuality to School, lessons and other commitments is essential. Although, students will be allowed to enter the School premises until 8:00 a.m., however, all late arrivals will not be permitted to attend the morning assembly and must collect in the area reserved for late-comers. In case of more than three late arrivals within a month, the student’s parents will be requested to furnish the School with a valid reason.
       
  3.7 Picking up Children from School: Students are not allowed to leave the School early. However, prior permission should be taken in extremely unavoidable circumstances. The child must bring an application in the morning, and then only a gate pass will be issued. Only parents should come to pick up their children during School hours. They should not send the driver or other people.
       
  3.8 A-level students will be permitted to leave the campus once their classes are concluded for the day. EXIT CARDS given by the A level Office highlighting their exit timings on a daily basis will have to be presented to the guards at the main gate. If a student applies any sort of deception or misrepresentation of her exit timing, and the consequences cause concern to the school and to her parents, the responsibility will be entirely hers.
    3.8.1 If an A level student is required to miss a class and leave early because of illness or a family emergency; she will be required to take an additional EXIT PASS from the A-Level Principal’s office.
       
  3.9 It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure that timely picking-up of the student at the end of the School day.
       
  3.10 In case of any sudden or late announcement of a holiday by the Government, the School will remain closed, but may function on any subsequent Saturday, if necessary.
     
04. Transportation:
       
  4.1 The Management does not take responsibility for any transportation service hired by Parents. It is the sole responsibility of the parents/guardians to ensure that the student attends school regularly and on time.
       
  4.2 Parents must ensure that their wards attend School if it is open on Saturday and at other times when the School has stipulated their presence as in the case of remedial classes, co-curricular events and activities.
     
05. Uniform and Dress Code:
       
  5.1 Class Pre-Nursery
No uniform
       
  5.2 Class Nursery to Class II
Beige colour skirt with sky blue blouse, beige socks, brown shoes, black, blue or brown hair accessories.
       
  5.3 Class III to Class XI
Sky blue shirt and beige colour trousers, blue duapatta, beige socks, brown shoes & black, blue or brown hair accessories. Sky blue head scarves are optional.
       
  5.4 A-level Uniform
Navy blue kameez with a white shalwar or trousers and a white duputta. Navy blue head scarves are optional.
Black shoes
       
  5.5 Students are urged to tie their hair neatly. Students arriving at School in untidy uniform may be sent back home. Students are instructed to display their School Id Cards on their shirts. Make up, jewellery and nail varnish are strictly forbidden on a normal school day.
       
  5.6 Students are allowed to wear high-heel or fancy shoes only on a function or a celebration day at School. High-heeled shoes can only be worn by the students of Class X and XI and A level students on such days.
       
  5.7 Students should carry their ID card to School everyday and display their ID card upon their person.
     
06. Books and Uniform:
       
  6.1 The DPS Uniform is available at Ghani Sons, Tariq Road.
       
  6.2 Text books are available at Tariq Book Stall, all branches.
     
07.
Tuition Fees:
       
  7.1 The quarterly payment of the student’s fee dues must be cleared within the due date of the issuance of challans. Failure to do so will result in the immediate withdrawal of your ward and her name will be struck off the roll.
       
  7.2 In case a student is withdrawn by her parents in the middle of a term, the payments due for the remaining term period have to be made. The SLC/TC/Report Card will only be released after payment of dues.
       
  7.3 Fee defaulters will not be given or shown their Report Cards and/or CIE documents until their outstanding dues are cleared.
       
  7.4 Fee defaulters will not be registered with CIE for any external examination until all dues are cleared.
       
  7.5 By signing this document, parents agree to the tuition fees stipulated by the Management, and any changes that the Management deems fit.
     
08.
Banned Items:
       
  Under no circumstances may the following be brought into the School, by any personnel:
       
  8.1 Weapons e.g. guns, knives, and dangerous sprays.
       
  8.2 Racist or offensive materials.
       
  8.3 Pornographic materials.
       
  8.4 Lighters, matches, fireworks, pocket lasers.
       
  8.5 Computer software, CD ROMs (except with permission from the ICT manager).
       
  8.6 Radios.
       
  8.7 Cigarettes, alcohol, illegal drugs.
       
  8.8 Mobile phones (Any mobile phones brought to School by students will be confiscated and will not be returned until end of term).
       
  8.9 Only A-level students may carry their cell-phones but they are to be kept on silent mode and may not be used in classrooms, the library, seminar room, labs, corridors, etc. The cell-phone will be confiscated for one month if a student is found using it inappropriately.
     
09.
Personal Items:
   
  9.1 The School does not accept responsibility for the loss or damage of personal items brought to the School.
       
  9.2 Bringing MP-3 players, CDS, cameras are forbidden unless express permission is granted, in writing by the Management.
       
  9.3 Pupils’ Forgotten articles: Bearers of pupils’ forgotten articles or lunch will not be given entry into the School during study hours as this disturbs the academic work. Please ensure that your child is carrying all required necessities in the morning.
    9.3.1 Items found in the School will be sent to the Lost and Found section, where the student may reclaim her property. Parents and students are advised to add name tags to their property so that it is easily identified/ recovered if lost.
       
  9.4 Students will not be allowed to post their pictures on the Internet wearing their School uniforms. Any such picture found may result in corrective actions taken against the pupil/s concerned.
     
10.
Disciplinary Problems:
   
  10.1 Damages to School property.
       
  10.2 Progress is poor or below average.
       
  10.3 Attendance is irregular.
       
  10.4 Aggressive behaviour, stealing, cheating, indulging in politics or anti-social/school activities.
       
  10.5 Habitual late arrivals.
       
  10.6 Improper uniform, showing up without School ID card.
       
  10.7 Any matter relating to the prestige of the school and/or its management.
       
  10.8 Deliberately missing or bunking classes.
     
11. Punishments:
  11.1 Deduction of marks.
       
  11.2 Fine according to the damages caused or as prescribed.
       
  11.3 Extra physical drill/stand up punishment.
       
  11.4 Expulsion/suspension from School.
       
  11.5 Warnings according to violation done.
       
  11.6 Parents’ undertaking for not repeating the violation of rules.
       
  11.7 Suspension from School for a period to be determined by the Principal.
       
  11.8 Expulsion from School after careful analysis of the case and meetings with parents.
     
12. Academic and Co-Curricular Activities
     
  12.1 All Co-curricular activities are mandatory and have a bearing on the Final academic result. 10 marks in the Final Exam have been set aside which may be deducted for resistance to participate in co-curricular activities and/or in the case of misdemeanours as may be deemed by the Faculty or Management.
       
  12.2 Students with less than 90% attendance and inadequate or unsatisfactory letters of explanation from parents/guardians may not be permitted to sit for the final examinations.
       
  12.3 Students of Class X, XI and A-levels must complete the stipulated mandatory hours of community service to be eligible for a certificate. Any student who fails to complete her community service internship is liable to have her marks deducted. Certificates for completed internships will be awarded by the concerned NGO. Students must present their certificates to the School, failing which they will be unable to receive their mark sheets and other relevant documents from the School.
       
  12.4 Students must follow the curriculum set by the School and must purchase/procure the books prescribed by the School. Information regarding the books is furnished in the Book lists provided by the Administration and is also available on the School website. The School also updates and uploads the course outlines for the benefit of the students on the website.
    12.4.1 The School faculty may revise the recommended books for any subject if it deems it necessary and in the best interest of pupils so that they find the subject and concepts engaging and easier to understand.
    12.4.2 Remedial classes may be held in certain subjects in order to make up for time lost due to unforeseen circumstances (such as unscheduled holidays) or if certain concepts require further clarification.
    12.4.3 Holiday Homework will be given during the summer vacations. Students are expected to do their assignments well and to the best of their abilities. They must not plagiarise/ copy the content or material from other sources (the web or other books). Only original work will be given marks.
     
13. Field Trips and External Activities:
     
  13.1 A field trip is part of the educational process and it is supervised by the School faculty. The School will enable and encourage “out of the classroom” learning experiences as a way of engaging students in the learning process and delivering the curriculum in a more culturally relevant and holistic way.
       
  13.2 The School decides the location for the field trip according to the feasibility of a destination and then organises the transport. Circulars with the details and a permission slip to be filled and signed by parents are sent out. Parents are responsible for the extra expenses of any trip, i.e. the food/snacks of the student and the entry fee (if applicable). This amount is non-refundable.
       
  13.3 The School and its staff are not responsible for any accident, injuries, damages or other losses to the person or property of participants during a School trip.
       
  13.4 Sick students should not go on field trips, and shall email, call or otherwise directly inform the Principal of their inability to participate prior to the trip's departure.
       
  13.5 If a student has an unexcused absence from a field trip, she may receive a marks reduction, based on the academic importance of the trip.
       
  13.6 Other external trips may be conducted by the School for various purposes such as intra-school competitions and matches. In such cases, the parents will be duly informed, through circulars.
     
14. Absences and Preparatory Leaves:
       
  14.1 Students on preparatory leaves (X, XI, and A-Level) are allowed to visit the School for study purposes or for using the library. They must come in uniform.
     
15. Absence without Notice:
       
  15.1 If a student keeps away from School for more than 10 days without notifying the office, her name shall be struck off the roll and parents will be responsible for any problem arising as a result of their negligence. Parents must inform the School of the reason for the pupil’s absence via a letter or a phone call. They are also responsible for ensuring that her homework is collected from the School or that she has been exempted from receiving any homework. On her return, she must furnish a letter to the School from her parents elucidating the reason for her absence.
       
  15.2 Students are not allowed to remain absent before the Mid Term and/or Final Term Exams. In such cases, the School has the discretion to deduct two marks per day, or may be barred from appearing in the Exams.
       
  15.3 All students have to return after vacations on-time. Absence due to sickness for more than three days must be supported by a medical certificate. The enrolment of any student remaining absent without intimation for 10 days will be cancelled.
       
  15.4 Students must attend School until the end of term; even if exams have been completed. Absence without valid notification/ permission in writing will result in expulsion.
     
16. Student Data Changes:
       
  16.1 If parents wish to change or alter the name of their child or any other details, they must submit a written application to the Administration Office. They will be required to fill a form by the Education Office, and follow the procedures stipulated by them.
       
  16.2 The School Administration Office must be immediately intimated regarding any change in the students’ contact details.
     
17. Examination Rules:
       
  17.1 The students and their guardians are informed that the marks of the monthly tests and mid-year exams shall be included in the Final Exam, in the aggregate form. Students are expected to be consistent and conscientious with regards to their studies.
       
  17.2 Supplementary examinations may be held at the discretion of the School.
       
  17.3 All examination results are final.  Parents and students may see their monthly test papers and mid-year examination papers. However, final examination papers will not be shown under any circumstances.  The results in the progress report cannot be challenged and must be accepted by parents/students with good grace.  Defaulters in fee will not have a right to see the result or progress report until the student’s dues are cleared.
       
  17.4 If a student is caught cheating or is involved in any other unfair means during an examination then her paper will be taken back, a new copy will be given to reattempt the paper. Marks may also be deducted for using unfair means.
       
  17.5 Students having attendance below 90% are not allowed to appear in the examination.
       
  17.6 All examination results are final.
     
18. Report Cards:
       
  18.1 Any student, who is found tampering with marks in the Report Card and other School Certificates, will be dismissed/ expelled from the School, without any notice.
       
  18.2 Report cards are confidential and must not be shared with other students or their parents.
     
19. Visiting Hours:
       
  19.1 Visiting Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Complaints and concerns regarding a student’s progress and behaviour must be made in writing directly to the Principal and not to the class teacher. Parents or visitors are not allowed to see their children or their class teacher while in class. A prior appointment should be taken for a meeting with the Principal and the In-charge of the section.
       
  19.2 Students are not allowed to bring any ex-student or relative to any School activities or functions.
     
20. Student Welfare:
       
  20.1 The School doctor maintains a medical record of all students. Students will be checked by the doctor every term. The medical report is sent to the parents with the mid-term and final exams. Parents are required to maintain these records and to inform the doctor if there is any medical complication that should be recorded in the student’s medical file (eg. allergies, etc).
       
  20.2 The doctor may periodically recommend certain medical tests or procedures to be performed (such as testing of the eyesight, delousing, dental care or vaccinations). Parents are requested to fulfil such medical requirements or to provide the School with a valid explanation, in case they cannot comply.
       
  20.3 The School will regularly hold health seminars and workshops which are mandatory for students to attend. Failure to attend may result in deduction of marks.
    20.3.1 Class X must complete the mandatory First Aid and Life Support Courses organised in collaboration with Aga University.
       
  20.4 DPS may periodically organise vaccination programs. Information of such vaccines will be sent to parents, who may opt for the inoculation of their daughter.
       
  20.5 Certain students may be selected to visit the School counsellor/psychologist in order to work out their academic or behavioural problems. Should there be any cause for concern, parents will be notified accordingly.
     
21. Food Policy:
       
  21.1 The School actively encourages healthy eating. Soft drinks are not allowed to be sold to students up to O levels in the School canteen.
       
  21.2 Parents are requested to send healthy food items in student lunch boxes and to discourage the eating of highly processed foods (’Junk Food’).
