Apart from the formal subjects, DPS offers an interesting variety of activity based subjects such as Quranic studies, gardening and cooking. These subjects are designed to groom students and enrich their lives.

Quranic Studies:

The teachings of the Holy Quran govern each and every aspect of human life. At DPS students not only learn to recite the Quran correctly but also how to act upon the Islamic rules and regulations in this modern era. They are encouraged to adopt Islamic moral values such as respect towards mankind, sympathy, kindness, tolerance and patience. The completion of the Holy Quran is celebrated by Ameen ceremony in class VIII.

Cooking classes:

Cooking class is one of the best ways to improve culinary skills and to nurture independence and just learning the basics of cooking is an asset in itself. Entertaining becomes a delight when you know how to create delicious and easy to prepare meals and meal planning will no longer be a drudgery but fun. These classes help students to be familiar with Food and Nutrition values in a fun filled, stress releasing and exciting way. They are much sought after by students and have helped students realize what to eat, when to eat, how to eat and how much to eat. They are taught recipes that are nutritious and easy to prepare.

Gardening:

Gardening emerged on DPS’s curriculum in 2008 and has become very popular among the students. It developed a love for nature combined with awareness of aesthetic sense in children. It is taught with scientific approach with the help of trained teacher. The organic vegetables are later used for cooking classes which gives children a sense of accomplishment.

Activities:

Activities at DPS provides children with opportunities for social interaction by organizing school competitions, inter school debates, literacy quiz contests, health workshops for students on topics such as posture , common health problems, cleanliness and hygiene etc with other extracurricular and education related activities which develop sense of responsibility more over providing students with a platform to explore their talent.

Physical Education is a part of our curriculum that promotes learning through movement.  It is most important for physical growth and the improvement of fitness and health. This is achieved through the medium of selected activities like table tennis, throw ball cricket, volley ball etc are carried out under the supervision of trained PE instructors.

Social service:

Social Work is the professional activity of helping individuals, groups, or communities enhance or restore their capacity for social functioning and creating societal conditions favorable to this goal.
Social Work is concerned and involved with the interactions between people and the institutions of society that affect the ability of people to accomplish life tasks, realize aspirations and values, and alleviate distress. Therefore, three major purposes of social work may be identified:

  1. To enhance the problem-solving, coping and developmental capacities of people;
  2. To promote the effective and humane operation of the systems that provide people with resources and services;
  3. To link people with systems that provide them with resources, services, and opportunities.

At Dawood Public School, social services are designated to our students to provide meaningful opportunities for social and economic growth of the disadvantaged sector of the population in order to develop them into productive and self-reliant citizens and promote social equity.

Our students volunteer and render their services to organisations such as, TCF, AKUH, SIUT and Fatimid.
At Dawood we cater to the children of Imran Rehabilitation Center who suffer from any restriction or lack of ability to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being.

Children who are street children are facilitated by providing them the opportunity to attend school after our own school timings. They are exposed to computer lab for computer literacy.

Societies:

Societies at DPS provide children with platform to exhibit their skills and talent in various events such as elocution, debate, volunteer work and gardening. These societies develop management and communication skills along with building a spirit of team work to promote cooperative learning among students.
This year we have societies such as:

  1. Bilingual literacy society.
  2. IGS gardening society.
  3. DPS volunteer society.
  4. Spots Society
Excellent results are never an accident rather they are the result of a student’s work ethic and the professional experience of teachers who care.
